As Trump administration takes shape, Texas takes a back seat

For generations, Texans have become dominant figures in Washington influencing national politics. Despite the state sending more Republicans to Congress than any other state following this year’s election, Texans so far have made little inroads when it comes to President-elect Donald Trump’s  C abinet and high-level staff appointments .  Trump has tapped several allies from Florida for top appointments like the secretary of state and attorney general. So far, Texas has seen only one major appointment: John Ratcliffe, the former Texas congressman who is Trump’s pick for CIA director. “I don't think it's a conscious decision to exclude Texas or to give Texans short shrift or anything like that,” said Southern Methodist University political science professor Matthew Wilson. “I think it's largely driven by personalities. There have not been as many Texans as there have been Floridians in Trump's inner circle. Since Trump does seem to put such a premium on loyalty and pers...

Rider 45: Report on Provider Admission Stats

Image
During the Texas 88th legislative session, Rider 45 [1]  in House Bill 1 was passed, which requires providers to report on information on referrals they have received by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) or a Single Source Continuum Contractor (SSCC). Moving forward, DFPS must publish a report by September 30 of each year. For those children in the care of the legacy system, DFPS will utilize the General Placement Search (GPS) application to track the number of children referred to each provider, the number the resulted in an admission or not, and the reasons for denial in the provider contacts. For those children in care of an SSCC, the SSCC will be providing their data to DFPS.   What is Required From Providers? Providers are now required to respond to  all  placement requests with an acceptance or denial.  If declining a placement,  providers must include the denial reason  (i.e. insufficient capacity, child charac...
Why We, the people, Started a Watchdog Group! Voting may determine who heads a government and its agencies, but it will not necessarily ensure that the operations of that government or its agencies are honest, open, and accountable to the citizens.   Government accountability is hindered by secrecy, helped by exposure to the public view. New forms of citizen action can assure that local governments are accountable to their citizens on more than Election Day. Political corruption and its costs, Whether because there has been an increase in political corruption or because there has been a decrease in willingness to tolerate political corruption .. indictments and convictions of office holders have proliferated in recent years. Political corruption is not a victimless crime All residents of an area whose government is corrupt suffer as a result of that corruption, either in higher taxes or in lower service levels. • In addition to fiscal costs, political corruption incurs social ...

DFPS and OCBCT Receive Additional Unsolicited Proposals for Region 7A

Image
On October 22, 2024, the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) and the Office of Community-Based Care Transition (OCBCT) received two unsolicited proposals for Community-Based Care. The proposals are for the Central Texas/Waco community area, otherwise known as Region 7A. This community area includes the following counties: Bell, Bosque, Brazos, Coryell, Falls, Freestone, Grimes, Hamilton, Hill, Lampasas, Leon, Limestone, Llano, Madison, McLennan, Milam, Mills, Robertson, San Saba, and Williamson. What is next?  As a result of multiple proposals being received, the unsolicited proposal process for Region 7A is cancelled, and DFPS, along with OCBCT, will begin the formal procurement process for advertising a Request for Application for Region 7A. We at The Legal Eagle 🦅 watchdog organization of East Texas will be investigating these proposals to insure that it is in the best interest of the East Texas area. Just how deep in poverty is Grapeland, Texas?

Poverty in Grapeland, Texas Growing up in Grapeland I had big dreams to make a great life for me and my children. I dreamed of owning one of Cutshaw Chevrolet's cars. I dreamed of building or buying a home somewhere in the country.  I dreamed that my family would flourish growing in Grapeland, Texas but that has not been the case. My life actually began with learning that Cutshaw's didn't want to finance to me, no car! I learned that I needed a 650 credit score, minimum to purchase a home and yet my mother was living in Grapeland raising me and so stricken with poverty she opened lines of credit up in my name before I turned 18 and those credit accounts were left delinquent.  This caused me to have a very bad credit score.  People say "don't worry they will disappear in 7 years", but my credit took a beating being used before I was 18.  Once I realized what my mother had done it was to late.  Credit repair was tough and it wasn't enough to bounce back fro...

The Struggles of Applying for a TSBCI Loan in East Texas

Image
The Struggles of Getting a TSBCI Loan in East Texas As a new business, we are always looking for a business loan or grant to help our business grow.  The other day I was taking some time to watch Matthew Leslo on YouTube.  He was discussing the numerous grant and loans that are available to small and disadvantage business owners and he was telling me about the Department of Treasury and that is when I came across the TSBCI loans.  Apparently, according to Matthew Leslo the government sets aside approx. 15,000$ to each American every year.  So we wanted to do a little investigation to find out if it is true.    You can visit Matthew Leslo's You Tube channel by clicking here! So I visited the Department of Treasury website and I emailed the government so that I could find out where the billions of dollars that is being set aside to help business owners progress in East Texas and I was mailed a flyer of a list of banks who are participation is the TSBCI loan p...
